8U End of Season Skill Set

At the end of the season, an 8U player should be proficient at the following skills and understanding:

 

Hitting:

            * Holds bat correctly

            * Has correct batting stance

            * Quality swings - not swinging bat at bad pitches

 

Base Running:

            * Running through 1st base

            * How to advance bases

            * Multi base running

 

Throwing:

            * Mechanics of throwing the ball

            * Difference between a throw & a toss

            * Throwing 30' accurately - no rainbows

 

Catching:

            * Glove position - above the belt & below the belt

            * Two handed catch

            * How to catch a Pop Fly

            * Introduce grounders

            * Ready position

 

Game Knowledge:

            *Understanding the Strike Zone

            * Where to throw the ball to make an out or to tag runner

            * Help teammate put on catchers gear
